What do a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and wine marketing all have in common?
Well fundamentally, nothing, but that’s how my story begins and how Momentum was born. As you probably know by now, I’m Michaela, the founder of Momentum Virtual Services [Momentum for short]. I’m a wife to my college sweetheart, a wine enthusiast, and a multi-passionate entrepreneur, and I am so thrilled you’re here. To launch the blog, what better way than to start at the beginning – keep reading for the inside scoop on how Momentum came to be, why we exist in the first place, and to get to know me better.
If I’m honest, I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit from birth.
I can remember drafting business plans from elementary school on, from summer lemonade stands for $1.00 a cup [no wonder I never sold much], to dog breeding, and even real estate ventures [aka building a mansion, moving my aunts, uncles, cousins, sister and parents in and charging astronomical rent so I could live in high style]. Clearly they weren’t all million dollar ideas, but there was never a lack of creativity, passion, or planning. As I got older, it’s no wonder that everyone presumed I would get a degree in Business. They were right!
In 2013, I started college at Bethel College [now Bethel University] intent on graduating with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and minor in Marketing. I met my future husband [I’m looking at you Michael] on the first day and we clicked right away – a story for another day. Fast forward to sophomore year, I needed some elective courses and was always intrigued by the law/policing. I enrolled in “Intro to Criminal Justice” and was hooked. By junior year, I had a full class load plus some, a part time job as an administrative assistant, and a boyfriend who I was quite literally obsessed with [still am if we’re being honest].
I graduated magna cum laude, as Business Student of the Year in 2017, on time with two degrees, AND a fiancé, needless to say, I’m no stranger to hustle.
If you’re starting to wonder where wine falls into all this, this is the part you were waiting for. In December 2018, I finally received answers to health issues I had been facing for the better part of two years. Since 2016, I had been consistently losing weight, unintentionally. At this point, I weighed less than 100lbs as a 23 year old woman, was constantly bloated, nauseous 80% of the day, and had just enough every to drag myself home from work just to fall asleep on the couch for hours.
After treatment my quality of life improved immensely, but I was warned that sugar was a driving factor in my infection and my condition could reoccur if I didn’t monitor my sugar intake. As a wine enthusiast, you can imagine the devastation when I learned wine can contain up to 30g of added sugar and I had to cut it out. A friend rescued me from my despair when she introduced me to Scout and Cellar Clean Crafted Wine, which had no added sugar and was the only organic wine I tried that actually tasted like wine.
I fell in love with the wine first, then the mission and heart behind the company. [If you want to hear more about the S&C story or try our Clean Crafted wine, click here]. So, in August of 2019 I partnered as a consultant and began marketing the wine I love. What I thought would be a great way to earn discounted wine and a few extra dollars, ended up being a turning point in my life. My online marketing business with Scout and Cellar refueled my passion for entrepreneurship, and this is where it starts to get good…
LAUNCHING MOMENTUM
As I networked with other consultants, leaders in the network marketing industry, and other business owners, I repeatedly heard the same phrase “If only I had someone who could organize/do/manage [insert the administrative tasks they dread in their business] for me, I would be scaling SO much faster. ” Every single time it was about the behind the scenes tasks, and every single time I thought “That? That’s something I love doing.” So, after bouncing ideas off of my coach, Jessica Haley, for weeks, I went for it.
I listened to the needs of my audience and launched Momentum Virtual Services, and positioned myself as a Virtual Executive Assistant at the disposal of small business owners who needed help to keep track of the details. Within 3 months, I had signed enough clients to be working 21 hours a week, and was loving every second of it.
HOW MOMENTUM BECAME WHAT IT IS TODAY
But as I continued to support my clients, I realized the need was deeper than I initially thought. The immediate need was for their to do list to be shortened with hands on help that could take on tasks and execute them effectively, but they needed something long term and sustainable. So, I put my ear to the market again and dug deep into what I could offer based on my experience and background that could help, and on January 4, 2022, Momentum was reborn.
With client experience, streamlined systems, and what we call expert simplicity at the core of everything we do, we are able to help entrepreneurs [specifically female online business owners] scale their business effortlessly, find more time in their schedule, and earn what they’re worth without the overwhelm.
And that brings you up to speed. If there is anything I missed that you’re anxious to know, drop me a comment, send me an email, or pop into my DM’s on Instagram [I hang out there a lot] – I’m an open book and I would love to connect.
From productivity tips, to client experience case studies, my favorite resources, and more, I’ll be back soon.
