15 Things Every Female Founder Should Know

Lifestyle

I admired female entrepreneurs for years, even glamorized entrepreneurship, from a distance until I actually became one and realized it’s a hell of a lot of hard work – but 1000% worth it. After working with dozens of female entrepreneurs, and being one myself for 3+ years I’ve learned a few things along the way.

I find myself sharing nuggets like this all the time on sales calls, strategy calls with clients, and occasionally random people in the Starbucks line – so I figured it was time to give it a permanent spot on the internet too. So, here’s 15 pieces of my best advice for female founders:

  1. Manifestation works. I owe everything I know about manifestation to my girl Jessica Haley, and it has completely shifted my perspective on goal setting. Thoughts become things, period, when you invite your subconscious to be a part of the process of achievement, the game changes.
  2. Day 1 of your cycle is an automatic pass to eat chocolate and cancel all calls – no excuses. As women we are designed to operate on a 28-32 day cycle, honoring that will get you so much further than fighting against it. Plus, you started your business so you could call the shots right? Stop feeling guilty about doing what’s best for you!
  3. Selling is serving. When you stop looking at sales as trying to convince someone to buy your product/service and start viewing it as what it actually is – offering a solution to their problem – sales becomes a lot less stressful.
  4. A healthy morning routine is essential to your success. Mine includes: a 20+ minutes of movement, affirmations, gratitude journaling, devotions, and of course a steaming hot Nespresso coffee. (p.s. If you haven’t already, read The Miracle Morning – it’ll change your life.)
  5. You’re probably overthinking storytelling content. Everything in life is content, start by writing down one exciting, frustrating, or unusual thing that happened to you every day and watch how much easier storytelling becomes.
  6. You can’t do it all on your own forever. Don’t wait until you’re burnt out to hire support and invest in mentorship.
  7. Ask for client birthdays and create a task in your project management system to send them a text/email on their big day to help them feel appreciated. It might seem small but those little things can go the extra mile to make your client experience more memorable.
  8. You need a CEO day. Set aside at least one day a month (preferably one a week) to batch your social media content, write your blogs, email newsletters, review/sort your brain dump board, etc.
  9. Make your office a retreat – your focus and productivity will skyrocket if you sort your desk, get a cozy office chair, and light a candle..I’m pretty sure that’s science. Go ahead try it and let me know.
  10. Reinventing the wheel and making everything harder on yourself doesn’t make you a better entrepreneur – tough love and I’m sorry but someone had to say it. Repurpose your content, create templates, and don’t overthink it.
  11. Your brand needs to be polarizing. If you’re marketing to everyone you’re marketing to no one. Be yourself and don’t shy away from talking about the things that make you different. (need help figuring out what sets you apart? hit me up)
  12. Pain in the ass clients are not worth your time, I don’t care how much they are willing to pay. Your mental health has no price tag.
  13. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. (ahem – Instagram/Tik Tok) Yes, social media is an amazing free marketing tool, but it’s volatile and often it doesn’t pay off for the amount of time & energy it requires.  Start your email list – like yesterday. (Not sure where to start? I’m your girl. One VIP Day and we’ll have you all set up.)
  14. A little gratitude goes a long way.
  15. Always be a student – if you’re a sponge for knowledge you’ll be unstoppable. Read/listen to podcasts daily. But don’t let learning hold you back from taking action.
