Four ways to grow your business without social media

Growth & Business

It’s no secret that when you’re looking to grow your business, the number one thing to focus on is getting more of the right eyes on your business. The part that’s not so clear is how to increase visibility without spending hours creating content for social media.

Everywhere I look I see marketing experts saying social media is essential and pushing business owners to create more, engage more, do more. But, I’m calling BS. Social media isn’t the only way to gain visibility. It is a great tool? Yes! But, there are way too many business owners putting all of their focus on social media and neglecting all the other important aspects of organic marketing.

So, today I’m sharing four of my favorite ways to increase visibility online without social media:

  1. Pinterest
  2. SEO
  3. Blogging
  4. Referrals

Pinterest

I know what you’re thinking, and no, Pinterest isn’t social media. It often gets lumped in with Instagram and TikTok as yet another social media platform, but it’s actually a visual search engine.

The biggest distinction between Pinterest and social media is the need for engagement. On social media platforms, like Instagram and Tik Tok, people are looking for connection, which is why responding to comments and DM’s is a crucial part of any good social media marketing strategy. With Pinterest, and other search engines, people are looking for answers to their questions, and engagement is irrelevant. And the fact that engagement isn’t necessary for a good strategy means most of it can be automated. That, combined with the fact that users on search engines are actively seeking solutions and therefore more prone to make a purchase, is exactly why I love Pinterest so much for low maintenance organic marketing.

If you’re creating content for any other platform and have a sales page for any of your services/products, you have everything you need to start marketing on Pinterest, and you could be getting thousands more eyes on your business with less than an hour per week.

If you’re starting from scratch, here’s what you’ll need to a strong Pinterest strategy:

  • A Keyword rich bio
  • Keyword rich boards and descriptions
  • Compelling visuals linked to your sales page
  • Keyword rich pin descriptions
  • Consistently publishing new pins (using a scheduler like Later or Tailwind to optimize your time)

Make SEO a Priority

Having great SEO is one of the best ways to have new customers come to YOU. I know we’re inundated with ads everywhere we look which may have you tempted to start shelling out money to earn views and clicks, but according to statistics organic search results are 8.5 times more likely to get clicked than paid searches. Which means organic SEO is still the main source of traffic for most small businesses, and ranking on page one of search engines should be a top priority for anyone looking to skyrocket their visibility. Both on-site (your website) and off-site (external websites) SEO is important to increase your chances of being found through a Google search, here are some of the best ways to improve both:

  • Create a Google My Business listing
  • Ask customers to complete online reviews (Google Reviews, Yelp, etc.)
  • Be a guest blogger or guest podcast host for an aligned brand
  • Do keyword research & make sure your website headings contain those keywords
  • Make sure your website speed is good

One of the easiest ways to boost your on-site SEO is with blogging, which leads me to my next point.

Start Blogging

Blogging is still one of the best ways to get new eyes on your business. Adding fresh content to your site on a regular basis is an invitation for search engines to reevaluate your site and improve your rankings. Plus, blogging enables you to target more individual keywords and increase your chances of appearing in a specific search. To start leveraging blogging in your marketing strategy, you’ll need:

  • An understanding of what topics your ideal client is searching the internet for
  • To write keyword rich content that aligns with your brand’s voice
  • Consistently post valuable content

Referral Program

This is probably the most slept-on tactic for increasing visibility, let your audience do the heavy lifting for you! 85% percent of my high ticket retainer client inquiries come from my referral strategy.

Referral marketing focuses on leveraging your existing network to spread the word about your products or services – requiring zero additional effort on your part. As referred customers experience your business, they too may refer others. Which creates a domino effect, where a single referral can lead to a chain of new customers. To create your own referral strategy, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Decide what incentive you can offer. Incentives could be discounts, free trials, exclusive access, or even monetary rewards. For my high ticket service referrals, I offer a set percentage monetary bonus.
  • Make it easy for your audience to refer others. Provide clear instructions on what they need to do to capitalize on the incentive. For high ticket service/product referrals, consider including those instructions in your onboarding packet or welcome email.
  • Talk about it. The more you remind your audience about the incentives of referring you, the more likely they will be to do it. For free offers (like referrals to your newsletter), remind them at the bottom of every email to forward to a friend.

Want to boost your visibility even more?

While this post is all about marketing without social media and how you absolutely can grow your business without the algorithm, it’s true, social media is another way to reach new clients. The ultimate digital marketing goal is omnipresent marketing, having a presence on every platform that your ideal client is on. And it’s not as difficult as it might sound, if you have the right systems, strategy, and execution.

I went from spending 25+ hours each month creating algorithm focused content for ONE platform (ehem, Instagram) to spending 2 hours each week creating content for 5 different platforms – and I wrote down exactly how so that you can do it too!
